What is a cooperative?

A cooperative is an autonomous association of people united voluntarily to satisfy their aspirations and meet their common economic, social and cultural needs through an enterprise with collective ownership and where authority is exercised in a democratic manner.

The core values of cooperatives are to take charge of personal and mutual responsibilities, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. Faithful to the spirit of the founders, cooperative members adhere to a code of ethics based on honesty, transparency, social responsibility and altruism.
